10 cp
Prerequisites Nil
Teaching Organisation 12 weeks or equivalent.
This core introductory unit introduces students to the history of communication in the business sector and contemporary ethical business practices which contribute to the common good. Innovative communication skills for the contemporary workplace, typified by change, complexity, and ambiguity are explored in the context of promoting and safeguarding human dignity. Its aims are to develop an understanding of effective, ethical business communication and to enhance oral, written and online communication skills in order to facilitate a smooth transition into university – and later into employment. This unit contributes to the core curriculum by assisting students to develop their ethical reasoning and collaboration skills so they are better positioned to make, and persuasively present, well prepared, well informed ethical judgements about contemporary business issues in the global economy.
