GEOG204 - Environmental Sustainability: the Global Challenge

Teaching Organisation: Lectures, tutorials, workshops or site visits. 3 hours per week for twelve weeks or equivalent.
What is sustainability? This unit introduces students to the principles, theory and actions of environmental sustainability. Using an interdisciplinary approach, students will become equipped with a comprehensive understanding of sustainability and the global challenges of population growth, climate change, energy supply, agriculture, development and environmental pollution and degradation. The inseparable connections between the environment and equity and social justice issues will be explored, with domestic and international initiatives to promote environmental sustainability evaluated. By using these ideas to explore the most pressing issues of the 21st century, this unit will prepare students to apply the principles of sustainability to their future careers and wherever sustainability ideas and actions are needed.
